Scar Concealing

Cosmetically, longer hair covers this but the keloid ones are difficult to conceal as are more raised and appear longer than the original surgical wounds. Many concealer products are sold under the name Topik, DermMatch, Caboki, Nanogen Cuvva. They are shaken on or applied on with an applicator on the head. They are made up of keratin fibers or powders and do the same job as makeup. Unfortunately, Concealer patients are in constant anxiety because this is temporary and gets removed easily. Exposure to wind, swimming pools, and brushing hair removes the concealer. Also, concealers will look fake if the hair is thin and too much concealer is applied.

Treatments for this wounded tissue is as follows:

1-FUE over FUT Scar

FUE technique can be applied over the FUT scarring tissue. The healthy follicles are implanted one by one on this tissue. But the effectiveness of the procedure depends upon the thickness of the wound. The effectiveness of this procedure is reduced if

1-      the scar tissue is thin enough to hold the implanted follicle

2-      If the blood supply is very low to that tissue, then the implanted follicle will shed off and there will be no hair growth.

For deep wounds and uneven irregular head surfaces, fat grafting is carried out to help smooth the severe irregular surfaces. Fat is taken from any part of the body and is injected into the deep irregular wound.

2-Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

It is also called as hairline tattoo, scalp hair tattooing. It is characterized by injecting the pigments directly into the scalp giving the appearance of thicker hair. The ink is selected first based on your hair color. Several sessions are required for completion depending upon the size of the area being injected. It is a permanent technique.

Your hair may grow grey or white but the injected tissue will not lighten at the same rate. Some people choose to go for a complete shaven look and get SMP all over the head.

Patients may feel discomfort.

3-Tricopigmentation (TMP)

It is a temporary version of SMP because the needles are injected onto the top layer of dermis. Ink color is the same as hair color. It is not as long lasting as SMP. However, it provides the patient an opportunity to change the color periodically. TMP lasts for 6 months to 3 years. Patients may feel physical discomfort due to injecting needles on his head.

4-LASER

It makes the discoloration less visible. LASER technique can be used in combination with SMP and TMP. It targets and removes the dead skin layer. Collagen and elastin in our skin protects the saggy nature of skin. As we grow older, their production rate reduces, making any wound look more prominent. LASER technique causes an increase in the production of collagen in the dermis layer, rejuvenating the elasticity and appearance of skin. Usually, Fraxel& Vbeam Laser techniques are used.

Fraxel laser is useful for smoothing the skin, this can be really beneficial requiring multiple sessions for FUT wounds.
